Myth 06 of 6 · busted
“Any tester — or any cheap meter — will do.”
The reality: Accreditation is the difference.
Why it’s tempting to believe
A number is a number, and cheaper always sounds better.
What’s actually true
Only a UKAS-accredited pendulum test to BS 7976-2 and BS EN 16165 carries the calibration-and-method audit trail that insurers, the HSE and the CQC accept. An unaccredited figure — or a reading off a cheap meter — is easy to challenge at exactly the moment it matters. And a tester who also sells flooring or coatings has an interest in the answer.
What to do
Accreditation is the difference.
Use an independent, UKAS-accredited laboratory — one with nothing to sell you but the test itself.
Don’t guess — measure
A fixed quote, a quick visit and a UKAS-accredited report that settles it.
